In microbiology, experimental design is essential for testing the effectiveness of antibiotics. In this experiment from the PLTW Medical Detectives Unit 1, we test three different antibiotics on a mock bacterial infection, using controlled methods to compare their performance. By carefully setting variables and systematically collecting data, we aim to determine which antibiotic is most effective at inhibiting bacterial growth. This process mirrors how microbiologists design experiments to evaluate new treatments and ensure they are both safe and effective for real-world medical use.

IT’S A SNOW DAY!
No School tomorrow—Fri. Jan. 10th
During the 2nd semester, 6th-8th grade students are immersing themselves in the field of healthcare through a PLTW course called Medical Detectives. This week, they participated in hands-on activities to learn about vital signs. Each student used a chart to record their vital signs before and after a strenuous activity, analyzing the differences. The class then engaged in a discussion to share and compare their results. I believe the students are truly going to enjoy this exciting and interactive course, and I can already see many potential future healthcare professionals in this classroom.
