In our 5th grade PLTW Science of Technology unit, students are learning how oil spills impact the environment and why they are so difficult and expensive to clean up. Each team was given a budget of $20,000,000 to purchase a variety of supplies they believed would help clean up an oil spill. After planning and budgeting, we created an oil spill simulation. Tomorrow, students will receive their purchased supplies and attempt to clean up the “ocean,” experiencing firsthand the challenges of environmental disaster response.
