IT’S A SNOW DAY!
No School tomorrow—Fri. Jan. 10th

During the 2nd semester, 6th-8th grade students are immersing themselves in the field of healthcare through a PLTW course called Medical Detectives. This week, they participated in hands-on activities to learn about vital signs. Each student used a chart to record their vital signs before and after a strenuous activity, analyzing the differences. The class then engaged in a discussion to share and compare their results. I believe the students are truly going to enjoy this exciting and interactive course, and I can already see many potential future healthcare professionals in this classroom.

In STEM class, the PreK students got to learn about chemical reactions by mixing different substances. We created a model volcano to see the reaction in action - when the ingredients combined, it produced a bubbly "eruption" that looked just like a real volcanic eruption, just on a smaller scale. This activity really helped the young students understand how certain ingredients can react with each other. Watching the simulated volcano erupt was super exciting for the kids.

🎄Our talented 5th graders are getting creative in the library, making woven tree ornaments that are as unique as they are! 🧶🎨 With their crafty hands and holiday spirit, they’re turning simple materials into beautiful decorations for the season. 🌟🎁
These ornaments will add a personal touch to any tree and remind us all of the magic of handmade creations! 🎄💚

Sending out wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving to all of our families, staff, & community supporters! Over 150 family members joined our students for our annual Thanksgiving luncheon on Nov. 21st. It was a great day and we are so glad they could share it with us.

Part 2- After reading "Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving", our little artists got to work on something extra special – family portraits! 🖼️The kids drew pictures of their loved ones, sharing what makes them so thankful for their families this holiday season.

📚🍂 "Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving" 🍂📚
Our little learners had a blast in the library as we read the delightful book "Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving"! 🌟✨ The students giggled through the funny story of the turkey-filled adventure, and then shared their favorite parts. 🦃🍁
After the story, we got creative and made beautiful family portraits to show the ones we’re thankful for this season! 🎨💖

🍂🦃Our PreK friends had a wonderful time this week getting into the Thanksgiving spirit by creating watercolor turkeys! 🎨✨ After reading the heartwarming book "Thanksgiving at Our House" by Wendy Watson, the kids discussed their own family traditions and how they celebrate this special time of year. 🏡💖
Each child then created their own vibrant turkey masterpiece, using watercolors to bring their creative ideas to life! 🌈🖌️ Not only did this activity spark creativity, but it also helped reinforce concepts like family, gratitude, and the joy of sharing traditions.
As a special treat, we also learned a fun Thanksgiving song 🎶 to sing together! 🦃✨ It was a perfect way to celebrate the season and connect with our loved ones.
🍁 Why it matters:
Helps children express creativity and understand the importance of family.
Encourages conversation about their own holiday traditions.
Develops fine motor skills with hands-on art techniques.
Teaches kids to celebrate gratitude through music and song!

5th Grade PLTW students engaged in a hands-on activity that allowed them to understand how pulleys work. They built their own basic pulley systems by threading a rope through a grooved wheel. This simple setup demonstrated how pulleys can make lifting or moving objects much easier. As they experimented, students saw that with less effort they could lift heavier items. This practical experience helped them grasp the concept of mechanical advantage in a fun and interactive way.
