The Sun emits various forms of light, including visible light that we can see, as well as invisible ultraviolet (UV) radiation. While UV radiation is not visible to the naked eye, it can damage our skin and even lead to skin cancer. Sunscreens work to protect us from this harmful UV radiation.
In this PLTW activity, each team explored how nanotechnology enhances the properties of sunscreens. The students then compared the characteristics of non-nano-enhanced and nano-enhanced sunscreens, and conducted an investigation to evaluate the effectiveness of both.

Through a hands-on PLTW project, students gained first-hand experience with the complexities of oil spill cleanup. By creating a simulated environment and deliberately contaminating it with oil, students learned about the devastating impacts of such spills.

In this PLTW lesson, students explored the fascinating chemical process that occurs when salt is added to ice. Through hands-on experiments grounded in applied chemistry principles, they discovered the intriguing effects of this interaction. This engaging activity not only deepened their understanding of the underlying scientific concepts, but also allowed them to apply this knowledge to make their own homemade ice cream - a delicious reward for their efforts.

Safe & Healthy/Fit Schools Committee meeting has been moved to Thurs. Sept. 5th @ 4:00 p.m.

This PLTW lesson challenged students to solve a complex problem by applying the principles of the design process to devise an effective solution. As these young engineers develop critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, they are gaining essential competencies that will serve them well in their academic and personal lives.

As the new school year approaches, we wanted to reshare some important information. Enjoy the last days of summer break, we look forward to seeing you soon!

Don't Buy School Supplies! Christina Brasfield has contacted the school and made arrangements to donate school supplies for every student at Osage Hills School!
This is an amazing gift to our students, parents, and school! Thank You Christina!

2024-2025 Student School Supply lists are now available on the school website.

Free Meals for 2024-2025! Osage Hills School is happy to announce that all students will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for free during the 2024-2025 school year. In addition, students will again enjoy free fresh fruit & vegetable snacks several times per week, and if staying for our after school SMASH program, they can have a free snack after school. Helping our families during tough times and providing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day for our students is a priority at OHS.

Gym Renovation Has Begun! The bond issue project to expand gym space, reconfigure & remodel bathrooms and locker rooms, and replace the gym floor has started and is currently in the demo phase.

UPDATE: Osage Hills School collected $350 and 3 boxes of food items in 3 days to help our friends and neighbors in Barnsdall. The money and food are being delivered to the Pastor of the First Baptist Church to help someone in need. Thank you to all who contributed!

Our Neighbors Need Our Help! Donate to Barnsdall recovery efforts. During these last 3 days of school we will be accepting money donations to benefit those in need in the Barnsdall area. After consulting with the Superintendent at Barnsdall, she told me the school, a local church, and the Emergency Management official had set up a special account to distribute funds to families in need. Here at OHS, everyone immediately wanted to help our friends and neighbors, but weren't sure how. Hopefully, with the donations we collect over the next 3 days, we will be able to ease the burden and stress of someone in Barnsdall just a little.

OSDE proposed Accreditation rule changes put many schools at risk of closure or State takeover. This letter came from Oklahoma Rural Schools Coalition:
Superintendents of Oklahoma,
By now, most of you are aware of the gravity of the proposed rules coming from the
Oklahoma State Department of Education impacting school accreditation.
We realize this potential change is broad reaching for all schools and recognize the need for community members to have an opportunity to weigh in with the legislature on this upcoming vote. With 149 legislators, this can be a time consuming and difficult task, so we have created an easy action link where your school employees and patrons can send one email to all House and Senate members.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education's proposed accreditation rules threaten the future of public schools across our state. Recent combined data analysis by CCOSA and Appleseed Law revealed that at least 82 schools are at risk of closure or state takeover upon passage (see attached).
As you know, the rules in question allow the State Department of Education the capacity to take over districts based on A SINGLE TEST TAKEN ON ONE DAY.
If passed, this continuous cycle of takeover/closure threat will happen year after year and will especially devastate small districts, where a few students' scores could unfairly doom an entire school. Entire local economies depend on their schools - forced school closures based on annual testing scores will be catastrophic for these communities and families. Because this will be an annual "hit list", public school supporters need to know that just because their district isn’t on the list this year, that could change any given year based on the test scores of a handful of students.
This action alert link will allow your communities to send a letter to the entire legislature. This is time sensitive.
PLEASE SHARE WITH ANY OF YOUR EMPLOYEES, BOARD
MEMBERS OR PATRONS WHO MAY BE INCLINED TO SEND IN A LETTER:
