OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma educator Cheryl Bledsoe has been selected as one of only eight educators statewide to participate in the 2026 SB 1671 Oklahoma Holocaust Legislation Coalition Teacher Appreciation Holocaust Learning Tour in Washington, D.C., July 17–20, 2026.
The immersive educational experience will include participation at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and will provide educators with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Holocaust history, human rights, and the importance of preserving democratic values through education.
The SB 1671 Oklahoma Holocaust Legislation Coalition was created with a mission to:
Fight hate
Respect diversity
Protect democracy
and to teach these values to future generations through the study of the Holocaust.
Bledsoe said she is honored to represent Oklahoma educators through this important initiative and looks forward to bringing meaningful lessons and resources back to her students.
“Teaching middle school students about the Holocaust is not just about remembering history — it is about helping young people recognize the dangers of hatred, prejudice, and silence so they can choose empathy, courage, and respect for others in their own lives.”
Bledsoe just completed her 25th year in education. She teaches 5th - 8th grade English Language Arts at Osage Hills Elementary School located in Bartlesville.
The Teacher Appreciation Holocaust Learning Tour recognizes educators who demonstrate a commitment to meaningful history education and to fostering inclusive, informed learning environments for students across Oklahoma.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. serves as the nation’s memorial to the Holocaust and is dedicated to inspiring citizens and leaders worldwide to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity.
